Rep. Frank Pallone, U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 6th district since 1988, used his social media platform on October 20, 2025, to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and express criticism of both Republican lawmakers and the president’s actions.
In a post on October 20, 2025, Pallone highlighted the duration of the government shutdown and criticized Republican lawmakers for their response. He wrote, “It’s DAY 20 of the REPUBLICAN RETREAT. This is the THIRD LONGEST government shutdown in history, and Republicans SHOULD feel pressure to return to solve the health care crisis as insurance premiums soar. Instead, they refuse to negotiate and have fled Washington.”
Later that day, Pallone commented on presidential conduct, stating, “I don’t think American presidents should act like tinpot dictators” in a post made at 15:25 UTC.
In a subsequent post at 17:27 UTC, he added, “Turns out a majority of Americans don’t like it when the President of the United States shows complete disregard for their cost of living.”
Frank Pallone has a long history in public service, having served in Congress since replacing James J. Howard in 1988. He previously served in the New Jersey Senate from 1984 to 1988. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, in 1951, Pallone holds degrees from Middlebury College and Rutgers University-Camden.
