Mayor George Murray, members of the Milltown Police Department, crossing guards, and the friends and family of former crossing guard Carma Bieglecki gathered on April 20 for a street dedication ceremony in her honor.

The event recognized Bieglecki’s forty-two years of service as a crossing guard in the Borough of Milltown. She began her work at Our Lady of Lourdes School in 1981 and continued there until its closure in 2013 before serving at Joyce Kilmer School.

Bieglecki passed away in 2023. During her career, she was known for her commitment to public safety and maintained an accident-free record while guiding thousands of children across streets over four decades. Mayor Murray dedicated a street sign at the location where she had served students for many years.

Chief Chris Johnson said, “I was truly honored to have known Carma and fortunate to have worked alongside her during her years of dedicated service.” He also noted that Bieglecki’s husband, John Bieglecki—a former Milltown Police Officer—”expressed great pride and appreciation in seeing this well-deserved tribute placed in her memory. It was a meaningful day for all who gathered to recognize her lasting impact on our community.”

The newly installed street sign is intended as a permanent reminder of Bieglecki’s dedication to generations of local students.
