Residents of Milltown are being advised to prepare for a possible snowstorm expected to affect the area from Sunday into Monday. While the exact amount of snowfall is still uncertain, local authorities recommend that residents make necessary preparations.
The Milltown Office of Emergency Management has announced that if there is sustained snowfall, all vehicles must be removed from public roads within one hour of continuous snowfall. Vehicles should not return until after the storm has ended and streets have been fully plowed. This rule applies to Main Street as well as all side streets.
Officials warn that vehicles left on roadways during major snow events pose safety risks and hinder snow removal efforts. “To ensure the safe and efficient clearing of streets during a large snowstorm, vehicles remaining on roadways will be towed without exception,” said Chief Chris Johnson, OEM Coordinator.
In addition to parking restrictions, residents and property owners are reminded that sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours after the storm ends, according to Ordinance 23-5.1. The Police Department and Zoning Office will strictly enforce this ordinance to maintain pedestrian safety, especially for children walking to school.
It is also prohibited under Ordinance 23-5.3 to throw or place snow or ice onto any street or roadway.
For those without off-street parking options, several Borough-owned lots are available for use during the storm:
– Gloria Bradford Borough Park Lot
– Michelin Field Lot
– Albert Avenue Park Lot
– Senior Center Parking Lot
– Library Parking Lot
– Borough Hall Lot
– Mill Pond Parking lots (Kuhlthau Ave & Mill Pond)
– North Brook Drive “Brook Park” lot
– Ford Avenue/N Brook Lot (on bend by Brook)
– South Main Street – Fire House Lot (Former Location of MFD)
Parking in school or church lots is not allowed unless explicit permission is granted by either the Board of Education or church leadership. Unauthorized vehicles may be subject to towing since these facilities need to remain accessible for their regular activities.
Chief Chris Johnson expressed appreciation for community cooperation: “Thank you for planning ahead and for your cooperation in helping to keep Milltown safe during severe weather events.” Residents with questions or special circumstances are encouraged to contact officials at 732-828-1100 before the storm arrives.
