The Milltown Office of Emergency Management announced on March 15 that a strong storm system is expected to impact the region on Monday, March 16, bringing the potential for severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and localized flash flooding.
The advisory states that confidence in severe weather has increased for Monday. The primary hazards include wind gusts of at least 75 miles per hour or EF2 tornadoes. Heavy rainfall may also result in flash flooding in some areas. Gusty winds are anticipated throughout Monday, with gusts possibly exceeding 40 to 45 miles per hour and reaching up to 50 miles per hour along the coastline.
“Severe thunderstorms are possible Monday afternoon and evening. The primary hazard is expected to be damaging winds though the potential for tornadoes is increasing for portions of eastern PA and DelMarVa,” said Chief C. Johnson, OEM Coordinator. “Excessive rainfall from thunderstorms may result in localized flash flooding. Gusty winds are expected for Monday even outside of thunderstorms. Wind gusts could exceed 40-45 mph at times and up to 50 mph along the coastline.”
Residents experiencing power outages due to falling trees or wires are advised to contact the Milltown Police Department at 732-828-1100 to report damage but not to inquire about restoration timelines, as communications staff may be occupied during the storm. Questions regarding repair timelines should be directed to the Milltown Utility Department at 732-828-2100 ext. 137.
The Office of Emergency Management encourages residents to monitor local, state, and national weather reports for updates on these storms.
Chief Johnson concluded by expressing appreciation for local social media page administrators who help share weather alerts and emergency notifications.
