The Milltown Police Department has announced plans to increase patrols on the night before Thanksgiving, a time recognized for heightened incidents of impaired driving. The department will assign additional DWI officers, whose presence is made possible through funding from the Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund. This fund is supported by fines collected from those convicted of impaired driving.
Chief Chris Johnson emphasized community responsibility in preventing accidents related to drunk driving. “We ask all residents to do their part to prevent tragedies. Do not drink and drive! Plan ahead by designating a sober driver, calling a taxi, using a ride-share service, or walking when appropriate. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 immediately. Your call could save a life.”
The department also warned that anyone found driving under the influence will face arrest and significant financial consequences. “If you choose to drink and drive and are found to be impaired, you will be arrested. A DWI arrest will cost thousands of dollars in fines and legal fees. Please make responsible decisions,” Chief Johnson stated.
He concluded with well wishes for the holiday: “On behalf of the officers and staff of the Milltown Police Department, I wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving.”
