The Milltown Police Department will participate in a statewide “Goal Zero” traffic enforcement initiative on Friday, January 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. The campaign is coordinated by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) and aims to increase law enforcement visibility during the start of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, which is known for heavy travel.
According to NJSACOP officials, police across New Jersey will focus on behaviors that often lead to serious or fatal crashes, such as speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and intersection violations. The timing of the operation targets what authorities describe as a high-risk period for traffic incidents.
NJSACOP representatives noted that last year New Jersey experienced a reduction of more than 16% in fatal traffic crashes. They attribute this decrease to coordinated enforcement efforts, data-driven deployment strategies, and ongoing public education.
The Milltown Police Department will add extra officers on patrol during the initiative to support these objectives.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and follow safety guidelines. As Chief C. Johnson stated: “Drivers are urged to plan ahead, slow down, buckle up, drive sober, and stay alert, especially during peak travel times.”
