He stated that “Trump’s threats to eliminate birthright citizenship are unconstitutional. He does not get to pick and choose who is American and who is not.” He further emphasized the simplicity of the principle by saying, “If you are born on American soil, you are a U.S. citizen.”
Later that day at 18:22 UTC, Pallone addressed environmental concerns, highlighting ongoing efforts to improve health outcomes through clean energy initiatives. He remarked that “Environmental justice ensures clean air & safe water for communities hit hardest by pollution.” Additionally, he expressed concern over Trump’s policies which he described as pro-pollution and anti-environmental.

He noted that “Since 1970, the Capitol Christmas tree —our ‘People’s Tree’—has brought a bit of America’s forests to Washington.” This year’s tree was an 80-foot Sitka spruce from Alaska’s Tongass National Forest.
