Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, has received an “A” grade for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that evaluates hospitals on patient safety. The Leapfrog Group uses evidence-based measures to assign grades ranging from “A” to “F,” focusing on errors, accidents, injuries, and infections.
Leslie D. Hirsch, FACHE, president and CEO of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, commented on the recognition: “In this ever-evolving healthcare landscape, we recognize that patients and families have choices. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is unique as it is the only national program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries—issues responsible for over 500 patient deaths daily in the United States. The program is peer-reviewed and updates its grades twice a year.
Saint Peter’s University Hospital is a 478-bed acute-care teaching hospital affiliated with Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. It serves as a regional center for children’s health care and perinatal services. In 2025, it received its seventh consecutive Magnet designation for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center as well as its first Magnet with Distinction. The hospital has also been recognized with Beacon Awards for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses across several intensive care units.
