Mark Anner, an internationally recognized scholar of workers’ rights in supply chains, has been appointed dean for the School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR) at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Anner, currently a professor at Pennsylvania State University, expressed his excitement about his new role, stating, “I am honored to join the distinguished faculty and the outstanding students and staff of the School of Management and Labor Relations.”
Rutgers–New Brunswick Chancellor Francine Conway praised the selection of Anner, highlighting his expertise in the field by saying, “Anner is an ideal choice to lead SMLR, which is the leading source of expertise on the world of work, building effective and sustainable organizations, and the changing employment relationship.”
Anner, who holds a doctorate in government from Cornell University and a master’s degree in Latin American studies from Stanford University, has an impressive academic background with more than 75 publications to his name. He has received several awards for his scholarly work, including the Susan C. Eaton Outstanding Scholar-Practitioner Award and the George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Adrienne Eaton, the outgoing dean of SMLR, who played a crucial role in recruiting Anner, will step down after seven years of service but will continue as a faculty member at Rutgers and SMLR. Eaton's tenure saw the establishment of diversity initiatives and significant achievements in development, including securing multimillion-dollar gifts and scholarship funds for the school.
With Anner set to take over the leadership of SMLR on September 1, the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations is poised to continue its impactful research and academic programs under his guidance.
