Gia Peppers, the host of the award-nominated podcast "More Than That With Gia Peppers," is dedicated to uplifting Black voices and exploring Black culture. Peppers, who is also an executive producer on the show, emphasizes that the podcast serves to challenge listeners to see themselves beyond societal barriers and current circumstances.
Reflecting on the purpose of her podcast, Peppers stated, “It’s for the Black community and those who support the Black community. We are more than what any barrier of society portrays us to be.” Her work recently earned a nomination for a NAACP Image Award in the Outstanding Society and Culture category, with the podcast reaching over 106 radio markets nationwide.
Peppers, a graduate of the Rutgers School of Communication and Information, has interviewed various prominent figures on her show, including rapper and entrepreneur Master P. She values conversations that delve into important topics and bring diverse perspectives to the forefront.
Recalling her journey from internships at The Wendy Williams Show and Live! With Kelly and Michael to becoming an in-arena host for the Washington Wizards, Peppers highlighted her transition from hard news to entertainment journalism. She has expanded her portfolio to include collaborations with Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning radio show and Essence Magazine, covering events like Essence Fest.
Despite her successes, Peppers acknowledges the challenges faced by journalists today, emphasizing the importance of protecting media professionals. She expressed concerns about the safety and security of journalists in the current climate, stressing the need to address the threats faced by those in the field.
As her career continues to evolve, Peppers remains committed to her passion for storytelling and representation. Alongside her ongoing projects, including the upcoming season of "More Than That" and the new series "Healed Girl Era Podcast," she aims to inspire audiences to embrace their inherent greatness.
