Biden nominates Mark Angelson as ambassador to Norway

President Joseph R. Biden announced on Tuesday, May 28, his intention to nominate Mark A. Angelson as the United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway. The nomination is expected to be formally submitted to the United States Senate in the coming days and requires Senate approval.

Angelson, a 1972 graduate of Rutgers College and a 1975 graduate of Rutgers Law School, currently serves as vice chair of the Rutgers Board of Governors and chaired the board from 2019 until 2022. In 2022, he was nominated to the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, an independent body that advises the President on intelligence-related matters.

Angelson is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and chairs the Institute of International Education, which administers Fulbright Scholarships for the U.S. Department of State. His previous roles include Deputy Mayor of Chicago, CEO of RR Donnelley, chair of MidOcean Partners, and vice chair of the Biden Foundation. He has had a distinguished career as an international lawyer in Singapore, New York, and London.

A life trustee at Northwestern University and an adjunct professor at its Kellogg School of Management, Angelson is also a member of Rutgers University Hall of Distinguished Alumni. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Rutgers University and an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta. Additionally, he received the Harold Hines Award from the United Negro College Fund.
