The Rutgers University Board of Governors has announced the formation of a 20-member Presidential Search Committee. This committee is tasked with selecting candidates for the position of the university's 22nd president. The selection process aimed to ensure balanced representation from across Rutgers' campuses and constituencies.
Amy L. Towers, chair of the Rutgers Board of Governors, and Alberto Cuitiño, dean of the School of Engineering, will co-chair the committee. They will collaborate with WittKieffer, an executive search firm hired to lead this nationwide search. "The Board of Governors and the Presidential Search Committee are committed to facilitating a collaborative, open process that welcomes, values, and considers input from across the Rutgers community," said Towers.
Committee members were chosen through nominations submitted by key campus entities such as each Chancellor-led unit, the University Senate, and others. Co-chairs then selected members from these nominees to reflect Rutgers' diverse community. The committee includes faculty, staff, students from various disciplines and administrative areas, alumni, and community partners.
"The Presidential Search Committee serves an important role in charting Rutgers’ course and lifting the university to new heights," stated Cuitiño. The committee plans to guide WittKieffer’s search efforts and recommend finalists for consideration by the Board of Governors.
In its commitment to inclusivity, the committee invites community participation through town hall meetings scheduled at different campuses in early December. Additional sessions will be announced later.
Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway announced his resignation effective June 30, 2025. The board aims to complete its search process by July 1, 2025.
