Saint Peter's Healthcare System and Clearway Health have announced a strategic plan to establish a specialty pharmacy. The facility, expected to open in late 2025, aims to provide Saint Peter's patients with equitable access to crucial specialty medications and the necessary support for managing complex medical conditions such as cancer and hepatitis C.
To enhance medication management and clinical outcomes, certified pharmacists and skilled pharmacy patient liaisons will be integrated into care teams across various outpatient practices at Saint Peter’s. These include gastroenterology, rheumatology, endocrinology, pulmonary, infectious disease, and pediatric neurology. This team will identify patients proactively, address barriers to care, and streamline medication delivery.
Specialty pharmacies offer higher levels of patient support than retail pharmacies. They provide enhanced personalized education, treatment assessments, monitoring, and communication with caregivers and healthcare providers. Additionally, the program will assist hospital providers in securing prior authorizations for prescriptions.
“Specialty pharmacies play a vital role in healthcare today,” stated Garrick Stoldt, chief financial officer at Saint Peter’s Healthcare System. “Providing life-saving medications can be complex due to a variety of factors... Our partnership with Clearway Health offers dual benefits: supporting the patients who trust us with their care while also strengthening our organization’s financial performance and stability.”
Fatimah Muhammed of Saint Peter’s University Hospital added that introducing these services has been her vision for over five years. She emphasized the importance of integrated care in optimizing patient outcomes.
Allison Arant from Clearway Health expressed honor in partnering with Saint Peter's: “Together, we will transform specialty pharmacy and improve the health of their patients and communities.”
