Kevin Corbett, former president and CEO of NJ Transit, is set to join Rutgers School of Engineering as a senior fellow of transportation studies on February 15. With seven years at the helm of NJ Transit, Corbett brings substantial experience in transportation solutions for New Jersey and beyond.

"I am very excited to join Rutgers University as a senior fellow of transportation studies," stated Corbett. "This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the university and the School of Engineering’s dynamic transportation portfolio."

Corbett will collaborate with the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation, supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation. His responsibilities will include mentoring students and faculty, contributing to research initiatives, and facilitating partnerships.

Alberto Cuitiño, dean of the School of Engineering, expressed enthusiasm about Corbett's involvement: “We look forward to Kevin’s continued involvement in the state’s transportation sector through advocacy and insight.”

Corbett has been active in supporting academic research for transit systems innovation. He was instrumental in launching the North American Regional Training Center of the International Association of Public Transport.

Ali Maher, director of the center at Rutgers, noted that “As a senior transportation fellow, Kevin will enhance the university’s research and education in transportation.”

Appointed by Governor Phil Murphy in 2018, Corbett's tenure at NJ Transit included significant achievements like Positive Train Control systems implementation and introducing electric buses. He announced his resignation effective January 15.

Before NJ Transit, Corbett held leadership roles at AECOM overseeing major projects like Moynihan Station Phase One. His broader contributions include serving on various committees related to public transit.

Corbett continues his engagement with global transit organizations as a representative on several boards while maintaining connections with educational institutions such as Georgetown University.
